Microalgal feeds

The production of microalgae is part of the global aquaculture industry, a sector that has been steadily growing for at least 25 years. Microalgae are used as food sources in aquaculture facilities. The world market for products derived from aquaculture was estimated at between 40 and 50 billion dollars in 2004.

NutrOcean produces microalgae that can be delivered fresh. The fresh microalgae concentrate is produced with contaminant-free cultures of consistently high quality which retain their full nutritional quality. Microalgae from NutrOcean are thus a reliable food source for marine organisms for the following use:
  • Hatcheries (shellfish and fish)
  • Aquariums
  • Marine research institutions
It has been shown that the use of fresh microalgae yields better results than the use of pastes and powders, which contain dead microalgae. In the past, the high costs and the need for trained staff have discouraged the use of live aquaculture feeds. Now there is a solution. NutrOcean sells mainly fresh microalgae, as attested to by testimonials from the New York Aquarium and the Parc aquarium du Québec. Ordering your fresh microalgae is easy. NutrOcean's microalgae have the following characteristics:
  • Produced with patented technologies under laboratory conditions
  • Chemical Contaminant free
  • Tested for vibrio
  • Consistent high-quality cultures
  • Cell counts over 4 x 109 cells/ml (4 billion)
  • Can be kept refrigerated for at least 8 weeks without alteration

The ideal food source for many applications

It is well known among biologists that live microalgae result in higher survival and weight gain in the larval and juvenile stages, and that, in many applications, the use of artificial feed is inefficient. For more information on why live microalgae are better than non-viable replacements, we suggest this article.
  • Invertebrates (larvae, juveniles, reproduction)
  • Rotifers, artemia and copepods for invertebrate larvae and fish
  • Water conditioning (green water)
NutrOcean has tested its production methods with many microalgal species. The following species are routinely available: For all other species, contact us.
  • Nannochloropsis (Nanno)
  • Isochrysis galbana (T-iso)
  • Pavlova lutheri (Mono)
  • TMN Cocktail (1/3 Nanno, 1/3 T-iso, 1/3 Mono)

Easy to order and easy to use!

The fresh microalgal concentrate is ready to use. It can be diluted to the desired cellular density, depending on your needs. The amount needed can be added directly to your tanks or diluted in seawater before use. Live feeding has never been easier.
  • 1-, 4- and 10-litre bottles
  • Delivered throughout Canada and the United States within 24 to 48 hours.
  • Can be held under refrigeration for at least 8 weeks (see article).
  • Paste and powder are also available.
